One of my vices is vises: Woden Tools Ltd.

Above, my 7" Woden woodworking vice.  Below, a picture of my small Woden machinist's vise.

The company began as The Steel Nut & Joseph Hampton Ltd. and was acquired by Record Tools in 1961.

A comprehensive history of the firm can been found at Woden Tools.

1957

1951

1953

Hello all if anyone can help me. I managed to pick up a Woden 89 No.2 vice quick release. Jaw size is about 13" fully open. I wonder old this vise could possible be, if anyone has the answer?
I have a number of old tools I collect and it's great to the know the age of them and preserve them and keep them working.

Thanks Daniel

Hi Daniel,

is it a 189/2 ? I have a copy of there 1955 catelogue and theres no #89, but from what you say with the 13" jaw opening im guessing its that.

Either way, they were bought out by Record in the 1960's, some sources on the web say 1961, other say 1967.

cheers
Jim

They will bought out by record in 1961 and they used the moulds still with woden. until probably 71 and then they were broken and discontinued.
record, a firm, are no different from say snap-on on who just buy and dissolve companies.
