Lake boat W.E. Fitzgerald

Dwight Boyer, Great Stories of the Great Lakes, Dodd Meade &Co. 1966
The W.E Fitzgerald, a 440 ft. lake freighter, comes through the Sault Ste Marie locks in the very cold November of 1926. The boat  carries a 1200 ton load of ice accumulated during gales in Lake Superior, while trying to beat the winter freeze-up.
W E Fitzgerald history here.
